The Bahay Bata centre is a Philippines based organisation that works with street children in Angles City, an area known for its sex industry. The centre exists on the dedication and passion of a core group of staff, many who live at the centre. Money arrives sporadically, living from month to month with little help from the government, the staff and rotary members depend on the kindness of donations. The centre provides a stable and nurturing environment whilst also developing the children’s independence. I was struck at how many children and families were helped by the centre, both the boys who are resident and the children who come to the school on a daily basis and, most importantly, the happiness of the children.
